The AO Bible

Dr. Lulin Jamir Ao has been diligently working since 2006 on a translation of the Bible from Hebrew and Greek into the Ao tongue (pronounced: 'OW'). This language is spoken by approximately 5 million people from 9 different tribes in the northeastern part of India.

Flanked by Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan, this area was first evangelized by a Dr. Clarke in 1872. At that time, many turned to Christ, thousands of churches were planted, and the gospel took root. Unfortunately today, Christianity exists "in name only" and millions have returned to their traditional religious worship of animism, spiritism, naturism, and other false gods. One evening, I had the privilege of meeting with Dr. Ao and I was deeply impressed by his breadth of knowledge, educational discipline, love for God's word and burden for the Ao people who are scattered among the thousands of villages, towns, and communities tucked between the mountains and valleys of this region. The scenery is breathtaking but the trek to reach these places is often dangerous. There is no greater opportunity for the gospel than to get the printed word in a native tongue into the hands of the indigenous people! PRMI is praying that God will give us some part in the printing and distribution of these Bibles so the light of God's Word can penetrate the darkness of the Ao people.
